the honeymoon
**Update!** We started our trip in Lincoln City, Oregon on October 2, and finished in San Francisco thirteen days and nearly 700 miles later on October 14. After almost two weeks of spending the better part of our days seated atop a four-inch wide piece of barely-cushioned hard plastic, we enjoyed every bit of the 22 hours on the train back to Seattle in our cozy “roomette”. Sore butts and knees notwithstanding, the Pacific Coast bike trip really was amazing and full of all of the contrasts we’d heard about. Long stretches of wild beaches, stretches of empty roads through Redwood forest, almost universally friendly people, and some of the best food we’ve ever eaten…but then there are stretches of uphill winding two-lane highway prowled by logging trucks and RV’s, perilous bridges with 1930′s-era “sidewalks”, and the monotony of strip retail along parts of 101. All in all, the good far outweighed the bad, and we experienced some beautiful parts of the country one of the best ways you can do it. For a taste of the experience, check out the photos we posted here. And soon, we’ll have a long-winded day-by-day series of posts for anyone who has the patience to read them!
